The Public Service Union of Belize is the second oldest public service union in the Caribbean. One of a trade union's main aim is to protect and advance the interests of its members in the workplace.

Circular No 39 of 2025

Transfer Grant Increases Approved under Circular 39 of 2025 dated 6th June 2025. The PSU is pleased to announce another important win for not just our members, but for ALL public officers. Through persistent advocacy and negotiations, the PSU has secured an increase in the Transfer Grant as outline in Circular Memorandum No. 39 of 2025 as follows:

1. Interdistrict – $1,200.00 to $1,500.00

2. Intradistrict – $600.00 to $900.00

The new rates take effect retroactively, ALL public officers who were transferred during the period 2021 to 2024 can benefit from the revised rates. This achievement reflects the strength of collective action and our ongoing commitment to protecting and advancing the rights and benefits of all public officers. GRIEVANCES

Using departmental liaison officers, grievance committees and its Industrial Relations Officer to facilitate the proper handling of grievances. Union members are reminded that they should notify the union in writing.

PARTICIPATION

Nominating representatives to the Public Service Commission. The Union participates to ensure the protection of worker’s rights and bargain for better terms and conditions of service for public officers.

LEGISLATION

Establishing ILO conventions representing the internationally accepted labour standards, the Trade Unions and Employers’ Organizations Act 2011 guarantees trade unions the right to collective bargaining with employers.

INFORMATION

Informing members of issues which can adversely affect them (Health and safety, social security etc). Based on feedback from the membership, the Union takes various steps to ensure that the membership views are heard.

DEATH FUND:

The funds for the Death Fund will be contributed by paying members of the union who are paying twenty (20) dollars and fifteen (15) dollars. The total death benefit of a member paying $15.00 is $525.00. The total death benefit of a member paying $20.00 is $600.00.

GRIEVANCE REPRESENTATION:

Grievance handling as an activity synonymous with trade union problem - solving. It is seen as one of the most dominant trade union functions, with the other being collective bargaining. Grievance handling is governed by a “grievance handling procedure”. Such a procedure is usually set out in the collective agreement.

COUNCIL OF MANAGEMENT
